Thyroid Testing and Management

Thyroid Testing and Management

The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that produces two thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Thyroid hormones regulate how the body uses energy; therefore, they affect practically every organ, including the heart. Thyroid tests are performed to determine how well your thyroid is functioning and to identify the source of your symptoms. It can over function or under function, termed hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism respectively.

Causes of Thyroid Problems

The thyroid gland produces some very important hormones that regulate many different systems in our body. Thyroid disorder occurs when your thyroid produces too much or too little of these vital hormones. Thyroid disease can occur in a variety of forms, including:

  • Hyperthyroidism – This is a condition in which the thyroid hormone levels are too high.

  • Hypothyroidism – This is a condition in which the thyroid hormone levels are too low.

Hyper and hypothyroidism can be caused by a number of disorders. The two most common causes are:

  • Graves’ disease – This is an autoimmune disease and is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism

  • Hashimoto’s disease – It is one of the most common causes of hypothyroidism, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer.

Types of Thyroid Tests

At Healing Advanced Solutions, we may order one or more blood tests to check your thyroid function.

These tests may include the evaluation of pituitary function, and checking the levels of iodine, TBG, TPO, T3, and T4.

  • Pituitary Evaluation – The pituitary is a gland that produces thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). As the name indicates, it causes the thyroid gland to release its hormones. The health of the pituitary gland is assessed to find if there is a problem in the production of TSH which is related to thyroid disease.

  • TBG Blood Test – Thyroxine binding globulin (TBG) is a protein that binds to thyroid hormones and transports them throughout the body via blood circulation. In the TBG blood test, the level of TBG in the blood is assessed to determine if the thyroid disease is due to a deficiency of the TBG protein.

  • TPO Antibody Test – Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is an enzyme that is found in the thyroid gland and plays an important role in the production of thyroid hormones. In a TPO antibody test, the presence of TPO antibodies is assessed in the blood. The presence of TPO antibodies indicates that your thyroid condition is caused by an autoimmune disorder, such as Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease.

  • T4 Level Test – A high T4 level in the blood may indicate hyperthyroidism. A low T4 level could indicate hypothyroidism.

  • T3 Level Test – T3 tests are frequently used to diagnose hyperthyroidism or to assess the severity of hyperthyroidism.

Management of Thyroid Problems

We offer unique treatment for thyroid problems as mainstream pharmaceutical drugs for thyroid disorders are associated with serious side effects and even toxicity. We offer glandular thyroid supplements to address thyroid issues. Glandular supplements are the supplements that are made from the glands, organs, or tissues of healthy animals and administered as a whole or as tissue extracts to address different problems in the body. In addition, we advise our patient to make dietary adjustments or take nutrient/vitamin supplementation to help promote natural healthy thyroid function.
