Understanding Weight Management

If you are looking for a healthy and effective weight loss plan, Healing Advanced Solutions is the place for you. We do not believe in one size fits all and offer a weight loss diet tailored to your needs. Typically, weight gain is just a sign that the homeostasis of the body is disturbed. In such cases, addressing the root cause is the key to weight loss.

Weight gain can be a result of thyroid dysfunction, abnormal hormonal levels, insulin resistance, inflammation, poor diet, nutritional deficiencies, and more.

Since weight gain can be a result of a multitude of problems, we employ testing for biomarkers to identify the root cause of your overweight or obesity. After that, we tailor our treatment plan according to our diagnosis and your individual needs to help treat the cause of obesity as well as restore the body’s normal function.

Common Causes of Obesity

Some of the common causes of obesity are:

  • Hormonal imbalances – The two main hormones whose deficiency plays a role in causing obesity are thyroid hormone and cortisol. The thyroid hormone normally regulates our metabolism. If too little thyroid hormone is produced i.e the person is suffering from hypothyroidism, the metabolism slows down, causing weight gain. Similarly, if adrenal glands produce an excess amount of cortisol hormone, it can lead to the build-up of fat in the face, upper back, and abdomen.

  • Depression – Depression can not only lead to imbalances in the normal production of the body’s hormones but it can also cause an individual to overeat which can lead to obesity.

  • Medications – Certain medications are also associated with weight gain as a side effect, for example, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and some diabetes medications.

  • Digestive Issues – The depletion of certain digestive enzymes alongside insufficient acid levels within the stomach can cause weight gain.

  • Insulin Resistance – A condition where the effect of insulin in the body is deregulated. This can commonly lead to weight gain. By assessing fasting insulin levels we can determine if this could be a contributing factor to our patients weight.

Our Weight Loss Treatment

When treating weight gain, we look at multiple biomarkers to help find out the cause and then restore the balance of the body accordingly. Some causes that we rule out include but are not limited to hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, excess cortisol, food allergies, poor diet, nutritional deficiencies, thyroid dysfunction, inflammation, and gastrointestinal disorders. After establishing the cause of overweight or obesity, we devise a treatment plan that includes medical interventions and lifestyle changes. Weight loss for women can be particularly challenging so we only offer tailor-made solutions.

Along with providing diet and exercise plans, we also prescribe medications that help with shedding extra body fat. Obesity can be treated with FDA-approved medications like Semaglutide (Wegovy), Orlistat (Xenical), Liraglutide (Saxenda) and Bupropion-naltrexone (Contrave).  For patients who are resistant to weight loss or are insulin-resistant, Semaglutide injections are particularly useful. Semaglutide is an anti-diabetic drug recently approved by FDA for weight loss. It mimics a hormone called Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP1) which targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. It is more effective than liraglutide and other weight loss medications and offers promising results when combined with lifestyle interventions. It can also be used for long-term weight management in adults and reduce the risk of obesity-related disorders such as diabetes.
