What is Epitalon?

Epitalon is a synthetic peptide of four amino acids, alanine, glutamate, aspartate, and glycine. It was developed at a Russian institute in the 1980s as a defined version of epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland, the gland that makes melatonin. People use it for sleep and healthy aging. Here it is prescribed after a free consultation and a review of your history.

Epitalon benefits and uses.

  • Sleep and melatonin rhythm

In animal work, epitalon supports the pineal gland's night-time melatonin output, and FDA reviewed it for insomnia in 2026.

  • Telomeres and cellular aging

In cell studies it activates telomerase, the enzyme that maintains the protective caps on chromosomes, a finding an independent lab replicated in 2025.

  • Healthy aging

Its use in the longevity conversation rests on the two mechanisms above; long-term human data mostly describe the related pineal extract.

  • 4amino acids, a defined version of a pineal extract
  • 7-4FDA advisory committee vote to recommend it for compounding for insomnia, July 2026

How does Epitalon work?

Two mechanisms are proposed. The first is pineal: in animal work epitalon appears to support the pineal gland's night-time melatonin output. The second is telomerase: in cell studies it activates the enzyme that maintains telomeres, the protective caps on chromosomes that shorten with age.

What does the research on Epitalon show?

  • Lab study

An independent laboratory replicated epitalon's activation of telomerase and lengthening of telomeres in 2025. Al-Dulaimi 2025

  • Human study

A small human study looked at the synthetic peptide in retinitis pigmentosa. Khavinson 2002

  • Review

An independent 2025 review summarized the epitalon research. Araj 2025

Epitalon side effects and safety.

  • FDA found no clinical data supporting its safety in humans in its 2026 review.
  • FDA notes that epitalon lengthens telomeres, and that longer telomeres are generally associated with increased cancer risk.
  • FDA's standing concerns are a possible immune reaction and impurities from manufacturing.

Because of the telomere question, epitalon is prescribed only after Catherine Seidle, APRN reviews your history, including any personal or family history of cancer.
