Is Functional Medicine Worth It?

A note from Catherine Seidle, APRN, November 2026: what the $300 two-hour functional medicine evaluation at Healing Advanced Solutions in Jacksonville, FL includes, from a full lab panel read against functional ranges to a written plan, and why it can be worth it when your labs are normal but you don't feel well.

Maybe you’re tired all the time, your digestion has been off for months, or your weight and sleep have changed and nobody can tell you why. You’ve had the appointments and the blood work, and you were told everything looks normal. But you know you don’t feel normal.

A lot of the time, what’s missing is time. The average primary care visit lasts about 18 minutes, which is enough to deal with the problem in front of you but rarely enough to figure out what’s causing it. That’s why our functional medicine evaluation gives you two full hours with me, over two visits.

Your evaluation here 2 hours
A typical primary care visit about 18 minutes
The average U.S. primary care exam, measured across more than 21 million visits (Neprash et al., Medical Care, 2021).

At the first visit we sit down for 75 minutes and go through your health history, your symptoms, and how you want to feel again. I want to hear about the things you haven’t had time to bring up anywhere else, because they’re often part of the picture.

We draw your blood right here in the office. Our Comprehensive Panel goes well beyond a typical annual checkup. It includes a full thyroid panel, hormones, blood sugar, inflammation markers, iron, cholesterol, and vitamin D and B12. I read your results against the standard lab ranges and against functional ranges, which are narrower. A result can sit inside the normal range and still be the reason you feel the way you do.

How a result gets read

Lab flag: none. Outside the functional range.

  • Flagged low or high by the lab
  • Standard reference range: the lab calls it normal
  • Functional range: the values linked with feeling well
  • Your result, flagged normal
A schematic, deliberately unitless: the widths are illustrative, not a specific marker's numbers. Your review shows your actual values against both ranges.

At the second visit we go through your results together, and I walk you through a plan built around them. You get it in writing, with changes to diet and lifestyle, supplements, and prescriptions when they’re needed. I’ll explain why each piece is there and how to fit it into your life.

Then we keep track. At your follow-ups, about every six weeks, we recheck your symptoms and repeat the labs that matter, so you can see what’s changing and we can adjust the plan along the way. We work alongside your primary care provider, not in place of them.

Here’s what it costs, also on our pricing page. Anything beyond this is quoted before we do it.

Common questions.

The things patients ask most.

Is functional medicine worth it?

It depends on what you're looking for. If you have ongoing symptoms and keep hearing that your labs are normal, what you get here is time and a closer look: two hours with Catherine Seidle, APRN, across two visits, a full lab panel read against standard and functional ranges, and a written plan with follow-ups that track how it's working. It does cost more out of pocket than an insurance visit. The free 10 to 15 minute consultation is a good way to decide whether it's worth it for you.

How much does functional medicine cost?

At Healing Advanced Solutions in Jacksonville, the initial functional medicine evaluation is $300 for about two hours with Catherine, across two visits. The Comprehensive Panel is a separate $250 lab fee, and follow-up visits are $150 for 60 minutes. We're cash-pay, HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and financing is available through Affirm.

Can a functional medicine practitioner prescribe medication?

It depends on their license, so it's worth asking anywhere you go. Catherine Seidle is a board-certified nurse practitioner (APRN), so when a prescription is the right tool she prescribes it and manages it here, alongside the diet, lifestyle and supplement parts of your plan.
