What is MOTS-c?

MOTS-c is a sixteen amino acid peptide encoded by a small gene in mitochondrial DNA, first described in 2015. It circulates in the blood, rises with exercise, and acts on the same energy-sensing pathway that exercise engages, which is why it is used for metabolism and healthy aging. Here it is prescribed as a take-home vial you inject under the skin, after a free consultation and a review of your history.

MOTS-c benefits and uses.

  • Insulin sensitivity

In mice fed a high-fat diet, MOTS-c improved insulin sensitivity, and in cells it improved how muscle takes up glucose.

  • Weight and metabolism

Mouse studies found MOTS-c reduced weight gain on a high-fat diet.

  • Exercise capacity with age

Mouse studies have looked at its effect on physical performance in older animals.

  • Mitochondrial health

In people, natural MOTS-c levels rise with exercise; the first trial giving it as a treatment began in 2026.

How does MOTS-c work?

In laboratory and mouse studies, MOTS-c acts on AMPK, the pathway cells use to sense low energy and the same one exercise engages. Activating it shifts cells toward burning fuel and improves how muscle takes up glucose. Newer work shows it binds and activates an enzyme in muscle called CK2. Whether an injected dose produces the same effects in people is what the first human trial is designed to find out.

What does the research on MOTS-c show?

  • Animal study

In the foundational mouse and cell study, MOTS-c improved insulin sensitivity and reduced weight gain on a high-fat diet. Lee 2015, Cell Metabolism

  • Lab study

MOTS-c binds and activates the enzyme CK2 in muscle, a mechanism behind its effect on glucose uptake. Kumagai 2024

  • Human study

In people, natural MOTS-c levels in blood and muscle change with exercise. von Walden 2021

  • Human study

Human genetic studies have examined a common variant of the MOTS-c gene. Zempo 2021

  • Human study

The first randomized trial giving MOTS-c to adults, 120 people with prediabetes and overweight, began in 2026. NCT07505745

MOTS-c side effects and safety.

  • Side effects in people have not been measured yet: FDA found no human exposure data for MOTS-c given as a drug in its 2026 review.
  • FDA's stated concerns are a possible immune reaction and impurities from manufacturing; every vial here comes with a certificate of analysis.

Because human treatment data have not reported yet, MOTS-c is prescribed only after Catherine Seidle, APRN reviews your history, and your follow-up checks how you are responding.

People use it for metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, exercise capacity, and healthy aging.

Is MOTS-c safe?

Human safety data do not exist yet: FDA found no human exposure data for MOTS-c given as a drug in 2026, and the first human trial has not reported. Every vial here comes with a certificate of analysis.

Is MOTS-c FDA approved?

No. In July 2026 an FDA advisory committee voted to recommend adding MOTS-c to the list of substances pharmacies may compound, and FDA has not issued a final rule.

How is MOTS-c taken?

It is a small injection under the skin. Your dose and schedule are set by Catherine Seidle, APRN at your visit.

How much does MOTS-c cost?

A take-home vial is $120, and it includes the bacteriostatic water and syringes. The consultation is free.
